Pictionary Wortgenerator

Words to draw, split into easy, medium and hard. Draw one per turn, or generate the whole game at the start so nobody sees a word in advance.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Pick a difficulty, or leave it mixed.
  2. 2Choose how many words the game needs — roughly one per player per round.
  3. 3Press Generate.
  4. 4Keep the screen away from whoever is drawing, or hand out one word at a time.

Press Generate to draw your first word.

Running the game

Standard Pictionary is one minute a turn, with no letters, no numbers and no talking. The person drawing may not use words at all, which is what makes the hard level hard — the drawing has to produce the word in somebody else's head rather than show it.

Keeping it fair

  • Match the level to the room — mixed difficulty is unfair when one team draws "dog" and the other draws "nostalgia".
  • Generate everything first — one list at the start, handed out one at a time, beats passing a screen around.
  • Allow one pass each — a bad draw should not end somebody's turn.

Frequently asked questions

Are the words German or English?

English. Pictionary words have to be things a group can name out loud, and this page is used by mixed groups who play in English, so that is what the lists hold. The easy level in particular is all concrete, everyday objects.

What is the difference between the levels?

Easy words are concrete objects a child can draw — a cat, a boat, a ladder. Medium adds actions and compound things. Hard is abstract: you cannot draw "patience", so you have to draw something that makes people say it.

Can the same result appear twice?

Not unless you turn on "Allow repeats". By default every item in a list is different, which is what you want for a game, a team draw or a set of prompts.
