Twitter Fonts Generator

X has no formatting toolbar, so the only way to post bold or italic is to post characters that are already bold or italic. These are the styles that reliably survive.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Type or paste your text into the box at the top.
  2. 2Every style below changes as you type — nothing to click first.
  3. 3Press Copy next to the style you like.
  4. 4Paste it into your bio, caption, username, post or message.

Formatting a platform does not offer

X stores posts as plain text with no styling layer, which is why there is no bold button and never has been. Unicode styled characters get around it because the boldness is inside the character, not applied to it. This is also why it works identically in a post, a reply, a bio and a display name.

How to use it without hurting yourself

  • One bold phrase per post, to mark the point — not the whole post.
  • Keep keywords plain, or search will not match them.
  • Check on mobile, where most people will read it.
  • Avoid it in threads people are meant to read at length. It is tiring.

Please use these sparingly

Screen readers do not cope well with substituted characters. Depending on the app, a styled word is read out one letter at a time, read as a string of symbol names, or skipped entirely. Someone using a screen reader may simply never receive that part of your profile.

One styled phrase in a bio is a design choice. An entire profile in styled characters shuts people out, and search cannot read it either. Keep your name, your job and your link in plain letters.

Frequently asked questions

Does styled text affect how far a post reaches?

It can. X matches searches and topics against the plain spelling, so a keyword written in bold characters will not be found by people searching for it. Style a line for emphasis, never the term you want the post to be found by.

Can I use it in my display name?

Yes, display names accept Unicode. Your handle — the part after the @ — does not, and never will. Keep the display name partly plain so people can still find you by searching your name.

Is this a font I have to install?

No. These are real Unicode characters that happen to look styled. The look is part of the character itself, so it travels with the text. Nobody needs to install anything to see it.

Why do some styles show as empty boxes?

A box means the device you are looking at has no font covering that character. Older Android phones hit this most often. Check your text on a phone before you put it in a bio, and prefer the styles near the top of the page — they are the widely supported ones.

Will fancy text hurt my search visibility?

It can. Search treats a styled letter as a different character from the plain one, so a name written in fancy text will not match when somebody searches the normal spelling. Keep your name and the important words plain, and decorate around them.
