Complete alphabets look better

The styles featured here all come from single Unicode blocks, which means every letter was drawn as part of one set. Compare that with the look-alike alphabets on other pages, where each letter is borrowed from a different script — the weights disagree and the word looks assembled rather than designed.

Two-style rule

Pick one style for the name and keep everything else plain. If you want a second, make it something quiet like small caps. Three styled elements in one profile stops reading as a choice and starts reading as an accident.

Please use these sparingly

Screen readers do not cope well with substituted characters. Depending on the app, a styled word is read out one letter at a time, read as a string of symbol names, or skipped entirely. Someone using a screen reader may simply never receive that part of your profile.

One styled phrase in a bio is a design choice. An entire profile in styled characters shuts people out, and search cannot read it either. Keep your name, your job and your link in plain letters.

Frequently asked questions

What makes a style look "stylish" rather than messy?

Even weight and even spacing. Styles with a complete alphabet — bold script, double-struck, bubble, squared, wide — keep every letter the same weight, so a word reads as one piece. Styles assembled from borrowed characters look uneven, and that reads as messy.

Can I use stylish text for a business profile?

One element at most, and never the business name itself. People search for the name, and search will not match styled characters. Style a tagline instead and leave the name plain.

Is this a font I have to install?

No. These are real Unicode characters that happen to look styled. The look is part of the character itself, so it travels with the text. Nobody needs to install anything to see it.

Why do some styles show as empty boxes?

A box means the device you are looking at has no font covering that character. Older Android phones hit this most often. Check your text on a phone before you put it in a bio, and prefer the styles near the top of the page — they are the widely supported ones.

Will fancy text hurt my search visibility?

It can. Search treats a styled letter as a different character from the plain one, so a name written in fancy text will not match when somebody searches the normal spelling. Keep your name and the important words plain, and decorate around them.
