Strange Text Generator

Flipped, reversed and borrowed alphabets, ordered from the readable ones to the ones that barely hold together. Everything here is real text, so it copies and pastes intact.

Ordered by how far they go

The styles at the top still read as your words. The ones further down stop being readable and become texture. Both are useful, for different things: a flipped username is a joke someone can decode, while a wall of stacked marks is just an effect.

Two things that break strange text

  • Character limits — anything with combining marks is two to six characters per letter.
  • Normalisation — some sites rewrite text on save, which quietly undoes the effect.

Please use these sparingly

Screen readers do not cope well with substituted characters. Depending on the app, a styled word is read out one letter at a time, read as a string of symbol names, or skipped entirely. Someone using a screen reader may simply never receive that part of your profile.

One styled phrase in a bio is a design choice. An entire profile in styled characters shuts people out, and search cannot read it either. Keep your name, your job and your link in plain letters.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between flipped and reversed?

Flipped turns each letter upside down and then reverses the order, so it reads correctly if you rotate your screen. Reversed only changes the order — the letters stay the right way up and the word reads backwards.

Why does pasting sometimes change the result?

Some apps normalise text on save. That can strip combining marks or convert look-alike characters back to plain letters. Nothing is broken — the app decided to clean it up. Paste into a note first if you want to check before posting.

Is this a font I have to install?

No. These are real Unicode characters that happen to look styled. The look is part of the character itself, so it travels with the text. Nobody needs to install anything to see it.

Why do some styles show as empty boxes?

A box means the device you are looking at has no font covering that character. Older Android phones hit this most often. Check your text on a phone before you put it in a bio, and prefer the styles near the top of the page — they are the widely supported ones.

Will fancy text hurt my search visibility?

It can. Search treats a styled letter as a different character from the plain one, so a name written in fancy text will not match when somebody searches the normal spelling. Keep your name and the important words plain, and decorate around them.
