Degrees of broken

  • Slashed and struck — one mark per letter. Reads as deliberate, works everywhere.
  • Stacked marks — several per letter. Reads as corrupted, spills past the line.
  • Reversed and flipped — no marks at all. Reads as wrong rather than broken, and survives every app.

Character limits

Glitched text is expensive. A word with three marks per letter is four times the character count of the plain word. In a 150-character bio that leaves you around 35 usable letters, so glitch a single word rather than the whole line.

Please use these sparingly

Screen readers do not cope well with substituted characters. Depending on the app, a styled word is read out one letter at a time, read as a string of symbol names, or skipped entirely. Someone using a screen reader may simply never receive that part of your profile.

One styled phrase in a bio is a design choice. An entire profile in styled characters shuts people out, and search cannot read it either. Keep your name, your job and your link in plain letters.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between glitch and cursed text?

They overlap. Cursed text means the heavy stacked-mark effect specifically. Glitch is the broader look — anything that reads as a rendering failure, including slashed letters, struck-through words and reversed text, which stay far more readable.

Which glitch style survives the most apps?

Slashed and struck-through. They add one mark per letter, so they are rarely stripped and never overflow the line. The heavy stacked styles are the ones platforms remove.

Is this a font I have to install?

No. These are real Unicode characters that happen to look styled. The look is part of the character itself, so it travels with the text. Nobody needs to install anything to see it.

Why do some styles show as empty boxes?

A box means the device you are looking at has no font covering that character. Older Android phones hit this most often. Check your text on a phone before you put it in a bio, and prefer the styles near the top of the page — they are the widely supported ones.

Will fancy text hurt my search visibility?

It can. Search treats a styled letter as a different character from the plain one, so a name written in fancy text will not match when somebody searches the normal spelling. Keep your name and the important words plain, and decorate around them.
