Building an aesthetic bio

Most good-looking bios use two styled elements at most, not eight. A wide or script name, one line of small caps underneath, and everything else plain. The contrast is what makes the styled part register — if every line is decorated, none of them stand out.

Decorative characters

The symbols people pair with these — ⋆, ࣪, ˚, ༘, ♡ — are ordinary Unicode characters too. You can type them directly alongside anything you copy from here, and they survive the same way.

Please use these sparingly

Screen readers do not cope well with substituted characters. Depending on the app, a styled word is read out one letter at a time, read as a string of symbol names, or skipped entirely. Someone using a screen reader may simply never receive that part of your profile.

One styled phrase in a bio is a design choice. An entire profile in styled characters shuts people out, and search cannot read it either. Keep your name, your job and your link in plain letters.

Frequently asked questions

What counts as an aesthetic font?

There is no fixed list. In practice it means anything soft, wide or handwritten — full-width vaporwave letters, light script, small caps and bubble letters. The styles at the top of this page are the ones that show up most.

How do I mix styles in one bio?

Copy each line separately and paste them one after another. A common pattern is a wide or script name on the first line, small caps for the description, and plain text for anything people need to read or search for.

Is this a font I have to install?

No. These are real Unicode characters that happen to look styled. The look is part of the character itself, so it travels with the text. Nobody needs to install anything to see it.

Why do some styles show as empty boxes?

A box means the device you are looking at has no font covering that character. Older Android phones hit this most often. Check your text on a phone before you put it in a bio, and prefer the styles near the top of the page — they are the widely supported ones.

Will fancy text hurt my search visibility?

It can. Search treats a styled letter as a different character from the plain one, so a name written in fancy text will not match when somebody searches the normal spelling. Keep your name and the important words plain, and decorate around them.
