How our Wordle Solver works

This Wordle Solver uses an elimination algorithm combined with letter-frequency analysis. Instead of giving you a random answer, it calculates which words eliminate the most remaining possibilities with the highest probability of hitting green or yellow tiles.

Best starting words in Wordle

The best opening words in Wordle contain a mix of common vowels (E, A, O, I) and high-frequency consonants (R, T, L, S, N). The most popular tournament-proven starting words include:

  • CRANE — One of the highest mathematical efficiency openers.
  • SLATE — Tested by the NYT WordleBot as a top first guess.
  • ADIEU — Eliminates four out of five vowels in a single move.
  • ROAST — Covers three common consonants and two common vowels.
  • TRACE — Excellent coverage for common second-guess branch points.

Handling duplicate letters

In Wordle, words can contain duplicate letters (such as SPEED, APPLE, or ROBOT). If you test a word with two of the same letter and only one is in the solution, Wordle highlights one tile (green or yellow) and grays out the second. Our solver automatically handles this constraint so valid answers are never excluded accidentally.

Frequently asked questions

How does the Wordle solver calculate the best guess?

Our solver ranks words using letter frequency statistics across the 5-letter English vocabulary. Words with distinct, high-probability letters (E, A, R, O, T, L, I, S) score highest because they reveal or eliminate the most information in a single turn.

Does this solver support Wordle Hard Mode?

Yes. In Hard Mode, any revealed green letters must be used in subsequent guesses and yellow letters must be included. Because you enter your green and yellow letters, all filtered results strictly obey Hard Mode rules.

Can a Wordle word have repeat letters?

Yes. Many Wordle solutions contain repeated letters. For example, WORDS like "EAGLE", "GLASS", and "SHEEP" have two of the same letter. If a letter appears once in green/yellow and is also marked gray, our solver keeps only words with exactly one occurrence.

Is this Wordle solver free to use?

Yes, 100% free with no sign-up or download required. All calculations run directly inside your browser.
