D&D Tabaxi Character Generator

Characters built for this one, rather than a general tool with a dropdown. Press Generate as often as you like — nothing is saved and nothing is sent anywhere.

How to use this tool

  1. 1Type a name, or leave it empty and one will be drawn for you.
  2. 2Choose how much detail you want.
  3. 3Press Generate.
  4. 4Keep the beats that fit and regenerate the rest.
Optional

Press “Write the backstory” to see your character.

Origin, turn, flaw

A usable character needs a past, one event that changed direction, and something they do wrong on purpose. The flaw is the part people skip, and it is the part that makes a character playable — a character with no flaw has nothing to decide.

The secret is the hook

The last beat is the one to build on. A secret is a question the table has not asked yet, and it gives whoever runs the story somewhere to go when a session stalls.

Frequently asked questions

How much backstory does a character actually need?

Less than most people write. Three things are usually enough to play: where they come from, what they are good at, and the flaw that keeps getting them into trouble. Everything else can be discovered at the table.

Can I use this for a published story?

Yes. The beats are assembled from our own lists and copied from nothing, so a result is yours. Treat it as a first draft of a person rather than a finished one.
