Where these names come from

The first names and surnames are ordinary ones — the sort that turn up on a class register rather than only in a novel. That matters for believability: a character called something nobody has ever been called reads as invented, and the reader notices the writer instead of the story.

Choosing one that fits

Say it out loud with the surname. Check it does not rhyme with anything unfortunate, and check the initials. Then search it — if the name belongs to somebody well known, the association comes with it whether you want it or not.

Frequently asked questions

Are these real people?

No. The first names and the surnames are drawn from separate lists and paired at random, so a result is not taken from anybody. A common first name next to a common surname will sometimes match a real person by coincidence — check before you use one publicly.

Can I use these Italian names in something I sell?

Yes. Everything here is assembled from ordinary words and invented syllables, so a result belongs to whoever uses it first. Do search the one you pick before you print it on anything — free to use is not the same as unused.

Why do I get the same list when I come back?

The draw is seeded, so one seed always produces one list. That is deliberate: you can bookmark a result or read it out to somebody and still find it later. Press Generate for a new seed and a completely different set.
