Why these sound consistent

Each set of names is assembled from one pool of syllables. That is what makes a fictional culture feel real: its names share sounds. Mixing in syllables from a different pool is exactly what makes a made-up name sound made up.

Making it your own

Take a generated name and change one letter, or move the stress. Say it out loud at the table — if you stumble over it, everyone else will too, and a name nobody can pronounce quietly turns into a nickname by session three.

Frequently asked questions

Are any of these official names?

No. The syllables are ours and they are combined fresh on every draw, so nothing here is copied from a published book. That also means a result is yours to use at your table, in your fiction or in a game you are selling.

Can I use these D&D Tortle names in something I sell?

Yes. Everything here is assembled from ordinary words and invented syllables, so a result belongs to whoever uses it first. Do search the one you pick before you print it on anything — free to use is not the same as unused.

Why do I get the same list when I come back?

The draw is seeded, so one seed always produces one list. That is deliberate: you can bookmark a result or read it out to somebody and still find it later. Press Generate for a new seed and a completely different set.
